How about this for one of the world’s most beautiful commutes. Astronaut Alexander Gerst riding the Canadarm2 to a work site on the International Space Station some 260 miles above Earth.
It was the first spacewalk for Gerst who launched to the ISS in May. He was joined on the spacewalk by Nasa’s Reid Wiseman.

Initially the activities had left Gerst speechless but he eventually called the six-hour-13 minute spacewalk the “most amazing thing I have done in my life”.
He shared his thoughts with his 161,000 followers on Twitter.
I do not have words to describe what we did today, but this photo gives a pretty good impression! @astro_reid #EVA27 pic.twitter.com/yApwfMJ7fJ

Spacewalk “colleague” Reid Wiseman described the view as INSANE and managed to get the ultimate space selfie while on the walk.

The duo had several tasks to complete while on their spacewalk. The first job was to relocate a failed cooling pump and Gerst went on to replace a light on an External Television Camera Group (ETVCG) outside Destiny.

US-based spacewalks were curtailed in July 2013 after an Italian astronaut nearly drowned because of a flooded helmet. Nasa solved the problem with the suit’s water-cooling system. Then concern arose over the spacesuit batteries. New batteries arrived late last month.
Wiseman will carry out another spacewalk on October 15 when he is joined by a different crew member, fellow American Barry Wilmore. Gerst will then choreograph the walk from inside the ISS.
The first Russian spacewalk of Expedition 41 is scheduled for October 22.
